Bike Tours in the Environs of the Zugspitze
The Zugspitz Arena has already been voted for the second time the best mountain bike region in Austria. Not only experts but also beginners are provided with a wide choice of biking routes. Our professional biking guides from the ‘Bikeguiding Zugspitzarena Team' are pleased to be of assistance when you choose your tour. Due to our long-standing experience in biking matters, we are in a position to give you a lot of advice and suggestions.
Here are a few suggestions for tours for you to choose from. In addition you may take part in our hiking programme from Monday to Friday free of charge. The hiking tours are in cooperation with the team of ‘Tiroler Bergsport' and just as professionally organized.

| Around the Daniel Mountain (Plansee circuit) Starting point: Ehrwald Level of difficulty: easy Route data: approx. 3 ½ hours cycling time, 46 kilometres, 380 metres difference in altitude Description: Follow the cycling path from Ehrwald in the direction of Garmisch until just before the bridge in Griesen. Turn left along the forest road through the Neidernachtal valley to the Plansee Lake. Follow the road on the right shore of the lake up to the 'Seespitze'. Here go left over the bridge and then left again on the footpath to the Heiterwanger See Lake. Cross the bridge over the canal and cycle along the path on the left of the lake to Heiterwang, and follow the Panorama Trail or the cycling path back to Ehrwald. |

| Dürrenberger Alm Starting point: Heiterwang Level of difficulty: strenuous Route data: approx. 3 hours and 50 minutes cycling time, 32 kilometres, 940 metres difference in altitude Description: From Ehrwald cycle along the cycling path/Panorama Trail to the Heiterwanger See Lake. Cross the bridge over the canal to the 'Seespitze'. Cycle in the direction of Reutte via the 'Hermannsteig' or along the road and cycling path to Mühl. Take the road up and past the Urisee Lake to the Dürrenberger Alm. Return via the same route for a short distance, then take the old steep path to the 'Melkalpe', and then follow the sign 'Kuhklause'. Be careful - don't miss the left turning in the direction of the 'Kuhklause' (here you will have to push your bike down through the ravine). Follow the 'Altenbergerweg' to the Plansee Lake. On the right shore of the lake, cycle back to the 'Seespitze' and to Heiterwang and from there take the cycling path/Panorama Trail back to Ehrwald (You can also use the road to Heiterwang or Reutte and make use of the train connection to Ehrwald - Heiterwang - Reutte, or take your car and head back to the destination of your choice). |
| Thörle - Eibsee Lake Starting point: Ehrwald Level of difficulty: medium Route data: approx. 3 hours and 50 minutes cycling time, 40 kilometres, 950 metres difference in altitude Description: Cycle along the road to the valley terminal of the ‘Zugspitzbahn'. Continue along the road past the 'Hochthörle' hut until you get to a path signposted as a dead end. Turn right here and cycle downhill until you reach a large field on the left. Look out for a path to the left after the field (a signpost for the opposite direction shows 'Forststrasse' and 'Hochthörle Hütte') and cycle in the direction of the Eibsee Lake. Turn right at the Hotel Eibsee and follow the main road to Grainau. From Grainau follow the track back to Ehrwald. |
| Wannig Starting point: Biberwier Level of difficulty: strenuous Route data: approx. 4 ½ hours cycling time, 40 kilometres, 1,600 metres difference in altitude Description: Cycle from Ehrwald through the so-called 'Moos' to Biberwier. Follow the forest road to the Weissensee Lake, cycle along the left shore and then along the Roman road ('Römerweg') up to the 'Fernpass', turn right, and after crossing the road carry on along the 'Römerweg' down to 'Schloss Fernstein'. After the campsite follow the track on the right hand side of the valley via St. Wendelin to Nassereith, Rossbach and on to Aschland. Shortly after Aschland turn left up the forest road to the 'Marienbergalm' and the highest point, the 'Marienbergjoch'. The track down is scenic but steep, via the 'Marienberg Gipfelhaus' to Biberwier. Back to Ehrwald via the 'Moos'. |
| Around the Thaneller Mountain Starting point: Bichlbach Level of difficulty: medium Route data: approx. 2 hours and 15 minutes cycling time, 30 kilometres, 600 metres difference in altitude Description: Drive from Ehrwald through the 'Moos' along the cycling path/Panorama Trail to Bichlbach. Here follow the cycling path to Berwang, and continue along the road to Rinnen. Cycle through Rinnen down the steep main road to the first bend. From here a forest road leads to the Rotlech reservoir and on to Rieden. In the centre of Rieden near the fountain, a track leads up to the 'Klausenwald' forest to Heiterwang. Cycle back on the cycling path or the Panorama Trail to Bichlbach and Ehrwald. |
| Tegestal Valley Starting point: Biberwier Level of difficulty: very difficult, strenous Route data: approx. 7 hours cycling time, 75 kilometres, 3,000 metres difference in altitude Description: Cycle via the 'Moos' to Biberwier. Cross the Fernpass, then shortly before St. Wendelin take the same route as the 'Wannig' tour. At the forest road crossing, cycle up the steep forest road into the 'Tegestal' valley until you get to the ruined lower 'Tarrenton Alm'. Here turn left along a path through fields to the 'Dirstentrittkreuz' (cross). Enjoy the superb descent, carry on along the narrow trail to Sinnesbrunn, then the forest road to Obertarrenz and at the end of the road cycle in the direction of Tarrenz. Cycle along the right hand side of the 'Gurgltal' valley via Strad to Nassereith and back the same way via the Roman road ('Römerweg') over the Fernpass to Ehrwald. |
